Cedar bark cordage ?

I have tried a couple of times to get the bark off of cedar and use it for rope.  It seems to break really easy.  Am I using the wrong part of the bark?  I know your supposed to use the "inner bark"...

Are you trying to peel a cedar or a juniper? Eastern Red Cedar is a juniper, not a cedar.

The inner bark of cedar is the best part. Peel the bark off whole, remove some of the flakey outer layers, then soak it in water for a few days... a small wrett of sorts... then peel off any remaining...

My experience with cedar inner bark is it is a bit brittle so I tend not to twist it as much as I would other fibers. I also keep the fiber bundles a bit thicker. Cedar ropes were known for their use...
